On November 22, the Franciscan Companions in Mission of Ringwood once again cooked up a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner for the sisters and guests at St. Joseph’s Residence. The meal consisted of everything from antipasto to pumpkin pie and many other desserts. During the celebration, the topic of their annual project was discussed. The group decided to provide solar cookers for the women of Darfur. We are happy to know that 17 solar cookers will be purchased.
As a result of the genocide in Durfur, 250,000 refugees live across the border from Sudan in Chad. Eighty percent of them are women and children. Needless to say life is very difficult for these people. The solar cookers convert sunlight into heat which in turn cooks their food. There are many other benefits from the use of these cookers. The companions have partnered with St. Catherine of Bologna Parish for the Interfaith Project. We are now looking forward to the next celebration and project for the year.
