Sister Ann Bernadette Cafferty Dies at Age 91

Aston, PA - Sister Ann Bernadette Cafferty, OSF, died in Assisi House on Sept. 27. She was ninety-one years of age and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for sixty-nine years. Sister Ann Bernadette (Bernadette Theresa Cafferty) was born in Baltimore, Maryland, where she was a member of St. John Parish. She entered the congregation in 1935 and professed her first vows in 1938. She ministered primarily in domestic work and as a volunteer driver.

Sister Ann Bernadette began her years in ministry at Holy Angels Convent in Trenton (1935-1936). She also served in the Diocese of Wilmington where she ministered at Immaculate Conception Convent in Elkton (1937-1938) and St. Paul Convent (1938-1939).

Sister Ann Bernadette served in the Archdiocese of Baltimore for sixty-five years. She spent forty-five years (1939-1984) at Mt. St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg where she ministered in domestic service and as a driver for both students and seminarians. From 1985-2005 she lived at St. Anthony Convent and served as a volunteer driver for the sisters in retirement there.

From 1984-1985 Sister Ann Bernadette worked at Assisi House in Aston. She moved there as a resident in 2005 and served in prayer ministry until her death.

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, on Monday, October1. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Ann Bernadette is survived by her Franciscan family. Donations in her name can be made to Franciscan Ministries Foundation, 609 S.
