I have frequently been threatened with death. I should tell you that as a Christian, I do not believe in death without resurrection. If they kill me I will come to life again in the Salvadoran people. If they kill me, from this moment I offer my blood to God for the redemption and resurrection of El Salvador. My death will be for the liberation of my people and as a testimony of hope for the future.
Oscar Romero (assassinated Mar. 24, 1980)

Closing:
O God, you have given us women and men, who like Jesus, have preached the Gospel with their lives. May their example spur us on to be more committed to the cause of justice and peace. With your grace, help us to live this day mindful of the needs of others and the conviction that we can make a difference in others’ lives. We ask this through the intercession of those who have died for the sake of justice and now live with you for all eternity.
Amen.
