As a Sister of St. Francis, What will I do?

You Will Live a Life of Loving Service

The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia live their ministry far beyond the confines of their home base. They live and work throughout the United States and beyond.

Your ministry as a Sister of St. Francis of Philadelphia can be as varied as your particular gifts. You may feel yourself drawn to being a teacher, health care professional, social worker, artist, or parish administrator. You can also be involved in a host of other ministries—lawyer, university professor, writer, community organizer, or chef, just to name a few. The possibilities are endless!

It is not so much what you do, but rather what type of person you are within your community and how you choose to express loving service. Your ministry must always reflect and uphold the values of the gospel and your Franciscan spirituality.

You Will Participate in Shared Decision-Making

As a Sister of St. Francis of Philadelphia, you will participate in a new model of governance adopted by our congregation that emphasizes our responsibility to one another. Decisions affecting our lives are made together in self-selected governing groups, without voting, but in a consensus-building process.  Major congregational decisions are also made in this model with sisters providing input at every step of the process. Such a collaborative model of governance reinforces the reality that we are called to live as sister with one another—a concept truly contemporary, feminine, and Franciscan.
